"History of Christianity in China and Trends in the Development of Chinese House Churches", Dr. Joanna Jiang and Mr. Jie Yu, Feb. 17, 2008 (handout)  (audio)

Joanna Jiang is originally from Guangzhou (Canton), in southern China. She became a Christian in 1989, and came to the United States in 1990. She is currently a health services researcher at the Department of Health and Human Services. Joanna has been involved in campus ministry for Chinese students for many years, and she has translated Christian books and articles from English to Chinese. Mr. Jie Yu is a prominent Beijing-based writer and a high-profile public figure both inside and outside China. He represents an important and courageous voice in China today, challenging the Chinese government to respect freedom of speech and religious liberty. He has written a dozen books.& His first collection of essays, Fire and Ice, was a bestseller in China in 1998. Under the influence of his wife, Mr. Yu became a Christian in 2003. They started a small house church in the suburbs of Beijing. In May 2006, President Bush invited Brother Yu and two other representatives of Chinese house churches to meet with him. Last June, Yu and his wife traveled to the United States again to attend an academic conference at Princeton University. They currently stay in Fairfax, Va. and plan to return to China shortly.

Dr. Moon reviews the Christian and non-Christian influences in 20th-century African-American music; several samples are played.

A review of the scientific data on climate change and energy use, with a special focus on a new program on "carbon sequestration". Dr. Braitsch is the Program Manager for this initiative.
